Services and Treatments

Chronic pain and acute pain can be debilitating and disruptive to a person’s life. Today, with advances in medical treatments and the sharing of information among international medical communities, patients may be able to choose from a variety of pain management techniques and options that can help restore normalcy to their lives.

At Pain Management Center of Long Island (PMCLI) we bring together state-of-the-art Western technology with the time-honored traditions of Eastern medicine. Since we regard every patient as an individual, our treatment plan will be tailored to your specific condition. We take the extra step of reviewing your full medical history with your primary physician in order to gather a full and accurate picture of your overall health and well being.

We are confident that we can help alleviate your pain using one or a combination of innovative techniques. The following are some of the time-proven conventional and alternative therapies that we employ to provide our patients with lasting relief.

CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS
Nerve Block (Under Fluoroscopic and Ultrasound Guidance)
This is an injection of pain medication in the area near the nerve that is signaling the pain. The medication blocks the signal of pain from reaching the brain.

Medication
Pain medications that can help relieve the symptoms of your pain may be prescribed. Types of pain medicines include nerve blockers, anti-inflammatories and antidepressants. PMCLI’s expert physicians use their experience, along with proven and researched study results, to ascertain what type of pain medications will work best for each patient.

Radiofrequency Lesioning
This pain relief method uses heat to interrupt nerve pathways conducting noxious stimuli.

Implantable Pumps and Neuroaugmentation Stimulators
These devices override the pain impulses along the spinal cord.

ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a part of Chinese medicine that also includes the use of Chinese herbs, massage, dietary therapy and exercise. Medical acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles into specific areas of the body and applying heat or electrical stimulation to those areas. This stimulates the nervous system to release natural chemicals in the body that promote relaxation and relief from pain.

Prolotherapy or Injection Therapy
Prolotherapy, or Injection Therapy, is the only non-surgical treatment for pain caused by ligament strain or injury. Ligament injection therapy naturally stimulates the body’s natural healing process of creating collagen.

P.R.P. – Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment
P.R.P. treatment works by drawing blood from a patient and then injecting into the damaged tendon or muscle, filling the area with healing cells and encouraging natural repair. Manipulation and Massage
These methods of pain management are aimed at healing the whole patient, effectively freeing areas of the body experiencing restricted motion and alleviating the accompanying pain.

Natural Medicines
When needed, the physicians at PMCLI prescribe natural medicines to support the treatment of pain, including vitamins, homeopathic remedies, herbs and nutraceuticals.

These represent only some of the pain management methodologies that may be used at PMCLI. Prior to the commencement of your treatment plan, you will receive complete information about the therapies being used for your pain relief. Any questions you may have will be fully answered by our physicians and staff. Your peace-of-mind is very important to us.
